The purpose of exterior lighting is to beautify, increase safety and security and expand the view without over illuminating. "We put a lot of effort into design with just the right amount of light where you need it," he says, explaining how lighting can enhance some features and hide less attractive ones. He explains that matching interior and exterior lighting can greatly enhance the outdoor views. The city expectation of lighting doesn't match the needs of the Muskoka environment, so he spends some time explaining lighting options to his clients. Solecki is concerned about light pollution and helped develop the dark sky guidelines dealing with light trespass for municipalities across Muskoka. Exterior lighting now uses even less energy. With new LED lights, Solecki is busy changing systems and installing new systems that use much less power and provide the same light.
