Artist opens dream gallery on water
By Sandy Lockhart Artist Peter Fromme-Douglas has a new gallery in Bala that is a bit different than most in that guests can arrive by land or by water. The Dream Factory Lakeside opened in May and has been designed as a comfortable space to relax and view the artist's work, which is a mix of impressionistic landscapes, air brush oil on canvas, pastels, photography, sculpture, architecture and more. He describes his work as an all consuming exploration of paint and passion. Fromme-Douglas likes creating pieces featuring historical Muskoka. He says, "Remember, you paint with your eyes, not your hands." Fromme-Douglas adds, "I do so many different things and it will be interesting for people coming in." "I want to do a historical book one day," he says. "I design buildings, cottages and boats. I try to design things that people have never seen before." The new gallery has a lounge room that Fromme-Douglas plans to use as a library and teaching space. "My quest has been to educate the art lover so that they might better discern the wheat from the chaff. "It feels like my home, instead
Breakfast TV visits Muskoka
By Sandy Lockhart A partnership between the Ministry of Tourism and Breakfast Television turned into a fantastic marketing opportunity for the District of Muskoka and the Town of Gravenhurst. Hundreds of spectators watched as Kevin Frankish and Dina Pugliese of Breakfast Television hosted a live show at the Muskoka Wharf in Gravenhurst on Friday, May 21, the day before the start of the May holiday weekend. City's TVs Breakfast Television is visiting different locations across the province with the show as a live remote on the Friday before each summer long weekend, funded by the Ministry of Tourism. "It was kick off to summer and it happened in Gravenhurst," says Anne Curley, general manager of the Muskoka Boat and Heritage Centre, who was the local contact co-ordinating the event and has previous experience working with the Ministry of Tourism. "At least well over 500 people were at the wharf during the show," says Curley. "Over the course of the morning - the three hours - there were 800 to 1,000 people." With only three weeks notice, there wasn't much time to prepare. Curley credits John Miller, Cathy Tait and Christi Gardner, all with the Real Muskoka Experience, as ART - p. 13 TV SHOW - p. 14
